Grand Parade Marshals

French-Legion-of-Honor-720x414.jpg

This year, the West Virginia Black Walnut Festival is proud to honor a group of local heroes as Grand Parade Marshals. Five local men share this honor as knights of the French Legion of Honor for their service in the U.S. Army during World War II in France.

These men-Denver Gandee, Walter Criss, Denver Wallbrown, Donzel Walbrown and Holly Eagle Jr-have been recognized by the French government for fighting and risking their lives in France during the war.

Established in 1802 by Napoleon, the Legion of Honor recognizes military service to France. World War II veterans who served in France qualify to be decorated as a knight, or chevalier degree.

Please join us in recognizing these men and their service during the 59th Grand Parade on Saturday, October 12th.
